Visit picturesque Heimbach

The Dormio Eifeler Tor Resort is located in Heimbach. This picturesque town is certainly worth a visit during your stay. Visit the Mariawald Abbey in Heimbach for lunch. You can get a beer and also other delicious things in the abbey to sample such as its own herb liqueur, pea soup, frankfurters, sandwich fillings and spreads and pralines. Do not forget to visit Hengebach Castle too. This ancient castle is on a scenic location on a 33-metre-high slate rock along the river Rur. The castle is one of the oldest castles in the Eifel and was built around 1000.

Heimbach also has a Jugendstil (the German version of Art Nouveau) power station that has been given the name ‘Kraftwerk Heimbach’ (Heimbach Power Station). At the beginning of the 20th century, this was the largest hydroelectric power station in Europe. The station is still in use today. Would you like to see the power station up close? Book a tour through the hydroelectric power station in Heimbach with the RWE Visitor Service.
